Emerald View Park Trail Builders

I’ve been working on an ongoing project with the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation.  The MWCDC helps stimulate business in my neighborhood and also maintain and grow Emerald View Park.  Mt Washington is Pittsburgh’s most notable hilltop neighborhood and is the home to America’s Most Beautiful City Skyline view.  The park consists of over 10 miles of wilderness hiking trails throughout the neighborhood with many spots offering fantastic vantage points of the city.  The MWCDC does a great job of organizing the trail crews that both build and upkeep the pathways… and recently in the area shown in the photographs below the crews removed 16 tons of decades old trash. I wanted to help them bring more attention to the trails in an attempt to get more people out using them.

My assistant and I went out and followed the crew around one afternoon and the set up consisted of having him handle an off camera strobe with a Chimera softbox.  Power was supplied via a pack that we rigged into a hiking bag.  We used the Phase One camera system and the matching 80mm 2.8 lens.  This process allowed us total freedom of movement while maintaining a lower weight limit on carrying gear.
