Phoenix lifestyle photographer
I’m always on the hunt for active outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts to photograph. Recently I started following Cody on Instagram. I was drawn initially to his photos of awesome hikes and adventures. Being that Cody also has a good look to him I asked to set up a photo shoot. We met and shot in the Phoenix Preserve Mountain Park just north of Piestewa Peak. The preserve offered exactly what I was looking for in the form of jagged basalt rocks and dramatic mountain vistas.
I always like for my lifestyle photography to have a natural feel so it helps to photograph people who actually live these lifestyles. With minimal coaching I had Cody doing some climbing and rock scrambling while I worked the camera and my wife heroically scaled the precarious rock formations with the portable studio lighting. The below selected images are all lit with one medium softbox on my Einstein strobe. Camera and lens combination was a Mamiya DF body with 80mm Schneider-Kreuznach Leaf Shutter lens paired to the Leaf Credo 80 megapixel digital back. This combination allows me full creative control of my ambient light via the leaf shutter that can sync with flash to 1/1600th of a second.
I’m really happy with the way this set of images turned out and Cody and I plan on more adventures and shoots in the future.
